Wanderers’ U12 Boys All-Stars Win in Barrie!

Story by BWSC's Valleywood correspondent, Sheralyn Roman:

It would seem the heat agrees with the Bolton U12 Boys All Stars as they swept to victory in a recently played soccer tournament in Barrie, outscoring their competition by a total of 21 – 1 over the course of five games.

Playing brilliantly throughout the tournament, Dean Patten scored numerous times and was fully supported in his goal scoring efforts by teammates Zachary Roman, Michael O’Rafferty, Luke Palmerio, Robert Delic and Devin Alldrit.  Playing two games in the sweltering heat on Saturday, the Wanderers started slowly with a hard fought 1-1 draw against Darlington.

Knowing that their coach, Justin Vetro had been involved in a horrible car accident just hours before the tournament, the boys turned up the heat for their coach in the second game, coming out strong against a team from Ajax to defeat them handily 6 – 0. Justin Fuenzalida had another excellent game scoring several times.  Cameron Dowle and Matthew Ramcharan also found the back of the net.

Sunday, with their reputation on the line and another win necessary to advance to the semi finals, Wanderers’ net minders Michael Srom and Nicholas Musacchio combined throughout the tourney to keep the competition almost scoreless.  Playing up to his nickname of the “pit-bull,” defender Curtis Lym shut down any player who attempted to get the ball past him and was fully supported in his efforts by Michael Marino and Matthew Marino.  Bolton defeated a local team, Wasaga Beach, knocking them out of the tournament with a score of 5-0 to advance to the semi finals against a team from Deep River.

The Wanderers All Stars then handed Deep River a 7-0 defeat to advance to the final against their first game nemesis – Darlington. Now late in the day, the heat still blistering and facing a team they had previously fought to a draw, Bolton showed true grit and determination.  The ball moved up and down the pitch and the tension was high as parents, coaches, and family members shouted encouragement from both sides.  Noah Frigault played another excellent game, complimented by Cole Eddy.  With Joshua Pecoskie-Schweir rounding out the Bolton roster, the boys fought hard to obtain a convincing 2-nil victory to win the game and the championship, which they promptly declared was for their head coach, Justin.

Congratulations to the entire Wanderers U12 boys All Stars.  They are: Zachary Roman, Matthew Ramcharan, Devin Alldrit, Dean Patten, Michael Marino, Curtis Lym, Robert Delic, Joshua Pecoskie-Schweir, Cameron Dowle, Luke Palmerio, Justin Fuenzalida, Michael O’Rafferty, Matthew Marino, Nicholas Musacchio, Cole Eddy, Michael Srom, Noah Frigault, and Jaydon Prince.

Many thanks to Coach Justin Vetro who set a fine example for his team by coming out to the fields despite his injuries and who also demonstrated professionalism and sportsmanship in thanking the opposing teams and Barrie tournament organizers for their efforts.  Congratulations also to assistant coaches Christopher Costa, John Marino and Stephen Costa for their continued hard work and dedication.  These young men have earned the team’s respect.
