Wanderers U9 Boys “A” Harvest Gold in Hamilton!

September 4 weekend saw the Wanderers’ Under 9 boys “A” team bring home gold from Hamilton’s Festitalia Soccer Tournament! Weather conditions were extreme, but no match for the team which put its own spin on “extreme”- scoring a record 23 goals for and allowing just 3 against en route to the tournament title.

Game one of the round robin saw Bolton stifle Saltfleet Titans 4-1. A quick goal in the first few minutes by Nicolas Clemenzi got things started. Justin Chiodo followed with two of his own, and Xavier Borelli finished things off.

Host side, Mt. Hamilton Avalanche was next. Pressured by Bolton’s talented offense, Mt. Hamilton conceded the first two goals in the game, both by Massimo Galluzzo.  Thomas Furlano’s speed and fine finishing secured a third for the Wanderers. Meanwhile, Joseph Caridi, Andrew Steko and David Amato’s strong defensive play helped Bolton goal keeper, Adamo Ditullio, who made some outstanding saves, earn a shut-out.

Bolton secured a tie for first place in its group by defeating the Tecumseh Warriors 9-0 in its final round-robin match. On-lookers were impressed by the Wanderers’ great ball movement and overall talent.  Scorers included: Massimo Galluzzo (1), Justin Chiodo (1), Xavier Borelli (2), Matthew Minna (2), Joseph Caridi (1), Tristan Quattropani (1), and Andrew Steko (1).

In the semi-final, Bolton faced Cambridge United.  Massimo Galluzzo found the back of the net in the early minutes.  Matthew Minna followed-up firing two bullets, and a beautifully placed corner kick in the second half by Galluzzo gave Bolton a 4-0 victory and a spot in the final!  Adamo Ditullio once again collected the shut-out.

The final saw Bolton faced a very confident Saltfleet Panthers – the season’s league leaders who had also gone undefeated in the round-robin segment of the tourney. The pressure was on.   And, it came right from the opening whistle as the Wanderers took command with two strikes by Joseph Caridi that rocked the back of the Saltfleet goal, forcing the team to regroup at half-time.

Stepping things up after the break, Saltfleet were hungry for goals and quickly managed to pull back within one. No sooner had the ball been centered, Wanderers’ mid-fielder Justin Chiodo finished a two-touch play with header neatly into the top corner.  Saltfleet battled back again to with a goal; however it simply wasn’t enough.  Chiodo’s goal held up as the winner – earning Bolton gold!

Congratulations go to the entire Wanderers U9 boys “A’ team which not only won the tourney but remarkably appeared in its tenth tournament final!  Congrats also to coaches Gaspare Clemenzi, Anthony Clemenzi, Deni Ditullio and Michele Steko, who would like to thank the team’s parents and its generous sponsors for their support: Van Mechanical, EPI Electric, MAPEI, Mustang Investigations, Sherwood Group, Admore Financial Group, and Tom's Family Restaurant.
