U9 Boys “B” Team Consolation Champs!

The idea was simple. Get in a few games as a “tune-up” before the start of the regular season. Anything more would be a “bonus”, and so Bolton’s Under 9 Boys “Select” team headed for Orangeville and the recent Stormfront Tournament.

Former house league players now participating in their first year of Select soccer, game one of the tournament saw Bolton’s boys overwhelmed by an experienced “A” team from Dixie.  On a cool, rainy morning, Vincent Valente was the Wanderers’ only goal scorer in a humbling 13-1 defeat.  Following the match, Bolton’s boys were asked, “What did we learn from this game and where can we improve?”  Every player shot up a hand eagerly looking to provide input.  The coaching staff was amazed by the enthusiasm and positive attitude.  The Wanderers’ “winning spirit” was alive and well!

Game two proved a feisty back and forth match-up in which Bolton was edged by Woodbridge 6-5.   Wanderers’ goals came from Tristan Quattropanni, Andrew DoPaco, Matteo Zaffino and Vincent Valente scored twice.   MVP honors (as chosen by the Woodbridge coaches) went to Bolton goalkeeper Gianni DiBenedetto.

On the second day of the tournament, the sun came out and shined on the Wanderers.  Bolton earned its first win over Waterloo 4-2.   Vincent Valente and Andrew DoPaco scored two each, while Bilal Mahmood and Joshua Paterson provided solid defensive play.   What’s more - the win put the Wanderers through to the Consolation Final against tournament hosts, the Orangeville Storm.

Bolton mounted its attack early in the battle for third-place.  Some fine passing from Julian Douglas and Adamo Calvano helped set up goals by Jorge Loayza, Vincent Valente, and Tristan Quattropani’s “hat trick”.   A persistent Orangeville team pressed in the second half.  And, with the wind at their backs, the Storm managed to tie the score at 5 late in the game sending it into overtime; however the Wanderers were more than just “up” for the task.

Bolton scored four overtime goals, two from the foot of Adrian Baldassarra and singles from Antonio Aquino and Vincent Valente.  9 -5 the final score!   And, a third place finish for Wanderers’ U9 Boys B team!  Delighted with the effort and sportsmanship shown by the boys, both parents and coaching staff are looking forward to more thrills as this new team continues to take shape and move forward.  Congratulations!
